Alexander the Great’s most highly regarded general, Ptolemy the First, designs the Alexandria Library. For the first time in history, scholars from all fields of study and from every known corner of the world have a place where they can pursue pure knowledge. The Alexandria Library houses the largest collection of books ever assembled in the ancient world. But no trace of it exists today. Who was responsible for the destruction of the Alexandria Library and what secrets about the ancient world were forever lost in the rubble?
[edit] Rosetta Stone
In 1799, French troops near the Egyptian town of Rosetta discovered an ancient basalt slab that would prove to be the key to unlocking Egypt's mysteries. Carved in 196 BC, the Rosetta stone bore a decree praising the Egyptian king Ptolemy V etched in hieroglyphs, demotic Egyptian and Greek. From the discovery and the long struggle to uncover the secrets of the ancient language to the birth of modern Egyptology, this is the fascinating saga of the Rosetta Stone. Trace the many failed attempts and dead-ends that stumped scholars. Leading experts tell the story of the brilliant, obsessed Jean Francois Champollion, who finally broke the code. And see how, within a few years, the secrets revealed because of the Rosetta Stone had transformed our understanding of the ancient world.

[edit] Greatest Pharaohs 1350 to 30 BC
Long before the birth of Christ, a great nation arose on the banks of the Nile. And for all that time, the fate of the nation rested in the hands of its storied rulers, the Pharaohs.

Commentary from leading experts, astonishing computer graphics and the latest scientific findings combine to make this the definitive examination of the famous ruin. Find out why the body and head are made of different stones, and ponder why any ruler for it is universally acknowledged that the Sphinx's head is that of a pharaoh would allow his image to be put on the body of a cat. Hear the latest theories about whose visage it is, and review up-to-the-minute findings about its construction.
[edit] King Ramses II
King of Egypt (1304–1237 BC), whose long and prosperous reign marks the last great peak of Egyptian power. Despite his doubtful victory over the Hittites at Kadesh in N Syria (1299 BC), he managed to stabilize his frontier against them, making peace with them (1283 BC) and later marrying a Hittite princess (1270 BC). An enthusiastic builder, he has left innumerable monuments, among them the great sandstone temples at Abu Simbel.
[edit] Tombs of Gods Pyramids of Giza
Travel through the shifting sands of time to the land of powerful pharaohs, magnificent monuments and well preserved mummies. Behold the grandeur of the Great Pyramids of Giza, man-made wonders that have held visitors spellbound for thousands of years. And journey with the soul of the dead Pharaoh as the Pyramid serves as the threshold of the unknown and the gateway to eternal life.
[edit] The Great Builders
Journey back to the age of the pharaohs to tell the stories of some of the most incredible buildings ever constructed; the Great Pyramid at Giza, Hatshepsut's Temple in Thebes and the Temple of Amun at Karnak. Egyptologists lead a tour of these sites today, telling the stories of the leaders who had them built and the engineers and architects who turned their masters' dreams into stone reality. Computer animations show them as they appeared during the glory days of the Kingdom of the Nile, and engineers present various theories as to how these massive projects were built.
This is the definitive video about the grandest engineering accomplishments of the ancient world.
